Athletics
St. Mary of Gostyn Sports
The
Athletic Program provides the athletic activities
that best serve the students of St. Mary School.
the purpose of the program is to provide the
opportunity for students to participate in sports,
to teach the fundamentals of the sport, to develop
the skills of the participants, and to instill
a sense of fair play in the sport environment.
The Athletic Program is for the exclusive use
of St. Mary of Gostyn School students. Participation
is optional, but participants must abide by
the Interscholastic Policy Rules and, most importantly,
meet academic eligibility requirements as determined
by the school administration.
The
Interscholastic Sports Program that allowed
for competitive sports activities between St.
Mary of Gostyn School and other parochial schools
includes basketball, cross-country, and volleyball.
The Cheerleading Program is a non-competitive
activity according to this policy.
The
Directors and Coordinators of the Sports Program
are:

Robert Burns--Volleyball Coordinator, Rena Kuratko--Cheerleading
Coordinator, Dina Cady--Concessions Coordinator,
and Terri Maurer & Paula Smith--Uniform
Co-Coordinators.
The
Cross-Country season begins in August and concludes
in mid-October. The Volleyball season begins
in August and concludes in early November. Cheerleading
begins in late September and concludes in late
February. Basketball season begins in late October
and concludes in early/mid March.
St. Mary
of Gostyn students, grades 5-8, can participate in one competitive
sport each season. Cross-Country, Volleyball, and Basketball considered
competitive sports programs because the teams compete against teams
from other schools. The Cheerleading program that has existed at
St. Mary's for over 20 years is a non-competitive activity according
to this policy.
Fall Sports--Cross
Country and Volleyball: Students in grades 5-8 are eligible
to participate in either program.
Winter
Sports--Basketball and Cheerleading: Students in grades 5-8 are
eligible to participate in the Basketball program.
Grils in grades 6-8 may participate in Basketball or the Cheerleading
program.
Girls in grades 6-8 may participate in the Noncompetitive
Cheerleading program only. Fees
A nominal fee is charged to the participants
to help defray cost of equipment, league and
referee fees, and admininistrative fees. All
fees must be paid before team activites begin.
Forms, including registration guidelines, are
provided by the school in advance of all sports.
