It is required that you select the name of a saint. Once a name is chosen, please
fill out the "Choosing Your Confirmation Name" form and turn it in to
the Youth Ministry office by December 1, 2007.
Choose a Confirmation Sponsor
Select
a sponsor who is a Confirmed, practicing Catholic. This person should be an individual
who attends Mass and receives Eucharist on a regular basis. You may select a relative,
neighbor, family friend, teacher, etc. Girls may choose a female or male sponsor,
and boys may choose a male or female sponsor. Sponsors must be at least 16 years
old, and parents are not to be chosen as sponsors. Write
a Saint Paper
After
selecting a Saint's name, you will be required to research and write a paper on
that Saint and tell why you chose that Saint for your Confirmation name. A web
site may be helpful to you in this project. Write
a letter to the Bishop and Pastor
requesting
Confirmation and explaining why you want to be confirmed. Write
a personal Creed
stating
what you believe about God and your Catholic faith. Write
a witness experience reflection
at
the end of the year explaining what your experience was and what skill or knowledge
you gained from it. Create
a Confirmation ribbon to be used during the Confirmation Mass
using
your Confirmation name and any symbols representing you, your saint, or any interests
or hobbies. Fill
out the Confirmation Candidate Information Sheet and send it in to the Youth Ministry
office by December 1, 2007

(One hour once a week, 2 hours biweekly, or four hours once a month.) The

are an exception). The
Witness Experience is meant to be something that matches the student's abilities,
needs, interests, skills, and knowledge. The students should choose a Witness
Experience rooted on an issue with which they have some previous experience or
contact or which they have an interest in. An
adult must sign the Witness Experience Log after each week.
Option
2 20 Hours
total service, 5 in each of the following categories: Family, School, Parish and
Community. Service
should reflect work done beyond the usual chores and duties done at home. Service
should not have any financial compensation. An
adult must sign the Witness Experience Log (this can be a parent) after each project. Service
can be carried out individually, in small groups, in large groups, or by families. The
Responsibility of the Parents: As
parents, you have a primary role in the Confirmation preparation program; you
will help your child grow in faith as you preapre him/her for the reception of
this sacrament. Your attendance at required events and Sunday Mass is vital. There
is, and can be, no substitute for your presence at such moments. Your interest,
example, and prayers make a difference in your child's desire to receive this
sacrament. Requirements: Through
instruction, example, and prayer, prepare your child for a decision to be confirmed. Complete
the required forms and return it to the Youth Ministry Office by December 1,
2007. Assist
your child in completing all class assignments. Please assist the candidate as
necessary with the material presented in the classes. If your child has any special
learning needs, please advise us so that we will make necessary adjustments. |
