To be successful, a church must give its parishioners opportunities to grow in their faith, serve others and develop life-long friendships with people who share similar values and principles. For 125 years, St. Mary of Gostyn Catholic Church and School has provided all this and more to its parishioners, creating a family more than 10,000 members strong.
Jim and Barb Holmes, members of St. Mary’s parish since the early 1970s, took some time to reflect on what the parish means to them. “St. Mary’s is a very important part of our lives,” said Barb Holmes. “It is our spiritual home. With the help of wonderful priests and a dedicated staff at our school, our family has been able to grow and mature in our faith and to be part of a loving and caring community.”
The Holmes family has had a wonderful experience with SMG’s educational offerings. “Our four children all graduated from St. Mary’s grammar school, as have five of our grandchildren,” explained Holmes. “Three of our grandchildren are attending the school right now, with two more to follow in the next few years. It is this community that has shared our joys and our sorrows, and has been by our side through good times as well as those challenging times we all face at one time or another. It’s been here that we’ve been given the opportunity to serve others in various ministries, and it’s this community that constantly challenges us to explore and deepen our faith.”
Jim and Barb Holmes welcome others to join them in liturgy and fellowship, as the community has a special way of reaching out to include others. “We know those seeking a spiritual home will find a wonderful experience at St. Mary of Gostyn, and will come to value and love this parish as much as we do.” For more information, please contact:
