The St. Mary of Gostyn School Advisory Body (SAB) is a consultative and advisory body made up of current school parents that assist and serve as an important resource for the Pastor and Principal in developing policy direction for the School. Such matters may include school policy, strategic planning, public relations, budgeting, endowment development, and recruiting.
The Advisory Body works with the Pastor and Principal under the Christian Principles of 'Shared Wisdom.' The Advisory Body itself does not determine or control the policies of the School such as student admissions, discipline, curriculum, and qualification or selection of faculty and staff. Rather, each of the Advisory Body member shares his or her talents, perspectives and Spirit-filled insights with the Pastor and Principal to reach a consensus acceptable to the Pastor and Principal on issues relating to the School.
Committees of the SAB that the assist the Pastor and Principal are:
- Administration and Legislation
- Athletics
- Endowment
- Events and Fundraising
- Finance
- HSA Liaison
- Marketing and Recruitment
- Strategic Planning
Volunteers
While members of the SAB lead each committee, the SAB board members also identify parents who can participate and support these committees. Volunteering to help in any of these areas is always welcomed and appreciated, if interested, please contact the SAB President.
School Advisory Board Tenure
Each member serves for a period of three (3) years. At the end of each school year, the existing board selects three new members and the three senior members relinquish their position. The new President is also determined to lead and facilitate the meetings for the upcoming school year and act as the liaison to the Pastor and Principal.
Selection Process
The process of selecting members begins in March. The candidate application form can be found on the school website, as well as information will be in the church bulletin and a sheet will be sent home in student’s "take home” folders. In April, there is an information night to further explain the selection process as well as the demands and expectations of the SAB position. During the SAB’s May meeting, after careful review of all applications, the members, Principal and Pastor interview the agreed upon applicants to determine the three new members of the board.
Monthly Meetings
SAB meetings are typically held the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm in the School Faculty Lounge, and are open to all school parents to attend (please note no children are allowed in scheduled meetings). At times, it is appropriate protocol for the SAB members to enter into closed session, whereby, those who are not SMG staff or SAB members will be asked to leave.
