St. Mary of Gostyn students in grades K-8 who live within District 58’s boundaries and who are 1 ½ miles or more from the school qualify for bus service. The bus company that provides this service is First Student. They determine the bus routes. They also provide bus service for the ½ day Kindergarten students who meet the above criteria.
All other students, including all of the preschool students, can either walk or be driven to school. The preschool and kindergarten students report directly to the classroom.
Students can start arriving at 7:30 and proceed directly to their classroom. The first tardy bell is at 7:40.
Parents who bring their children to school are asked to drive slowly, allow enough time, and use caution to ensure the safety of all of the children. The front and side of the school are the Drop-Off Zones. Do not park and leave your car in these areas. If you drop off on the Douglas side of the school, pull your car all the way up to the back door of the school to allow more cars to pull up and to not block the intersection. Children should exit from the right side of the car. If you drop off in front of the LRC, children exit from the right side of the car (not the street-side) and walk to the corner to be crossed. (A map and detailed instructions are available in the office.)
Parents can park in the lot on the east side of Douglas next to the Church, on the north side of Prairie past the Kindergarten/Pre-School, on Wilson, or on Gierz. There is no parking all day in front of the Kindergarten/Pre-School or on the Douglas-side of the main building between 7:30-8:30 a.m. Parents and children should cross at Prairie and Douglas, following the directions of the crossing guard. Parents are asked to not escort their children into the building.
Walkers are dismissed at 2:27 p.m. and should immediately leave the premises. Students taking buses are dismissed after walkers. Buses pick up students in the front of the school. Parents who come to pick up their children may park in the spots indicated in Arrival. When the buses display flashing stop signs, exit the parking lot at the farthest east end and go to Fairview. The crossing guard directs the walkers only, he cannot direct traffic. Parents are asked to not come into the building, but rather to wait outside at the end of the day.
Students are dismissed at 11:30 a.m. on most Early Dismissal Days.
Students in grades 1-8 who are not in their seats in homeroom at 7:40 a.m. when the bell rings are marked tardy. Doctor appointments and late bus arrivals are excused tardies. Any other tardy is to have a written excuse and be presented to the office. Students will receive a "tardy slip” to be given to the homeroom teacher. A pattern of unexcused tardiness will result in a demerit and be treated as such.
