Religious Education - Get In Touch With Your Inner Volunteer
Get in Touch With Your Inner Volunteer

St. Mary Religious Education Program is run by faithful individuals with a deep concern for children.  Here are some of the areas where volunteer support is needed to assure that they learn their Catholic faith and develop a relationship with God.  The time requirement can be small or large, but the rewards are always great.  Please familiarize yourself with these areas of need and see if something matches your interest and your availability. We are happy to discuss the various roles with you and will support you every step of the way. Contact the Religious Education Office at (630) 960-3565 X219 or religiouseducation@stmarygostyn.org

Catechist, Substitute Catechist, and Catechist Aide

Adults are needed at each of our sessions on Wednesdays (4:15-5:30, 6:30-7:45) and Thursdays (4:15-5:30). Teaming up with a partner is encouraged. Junior high and high school assistants are also needed to offer support to the catechist. This is an excellent opportunity for junior high students preparing to receive the sacrament of Confirmation.

Rainbows & Sunbeams for All God's Children

Support and healing for children who have experienced some loss – either through divorce, the death of a parent, a grandparent, or even the loss of a friend who moved away.

Both the Rainbows and Sunbeams (pre school) Programs are coordinated and facilitated by trained volunteer adults. If you are being called to create an environment of trust and love for a young child, please consider becoming a trained facilitator.

Children's Liturgy of the Word

Junior high school, high school, college students and adults are needed at the 8:30 and 10:15 masses on Sundays September through May. You can help out every week or every once in a while. Jr. High students are encouraged to participate in this ministry as a way to prepare for Confirmation.

Vacation Bible School ~ Third week of June each summer

Adults, high school and junior high school students are needed each summer to be part of the St. Mary's VBS Team. Small groups, games, snacks, crafts, music and decorations are the areas in which adult support is needed. Whether you help all five days, or only one or two, your support is welcome. Consider being part of this week of fun, faith and friendship!

Clerical Support

Sorting supplies, setting up for classes, making copies, preparing sacrament packets, and processing mailings are areas of need throughout the entire year. If you can spare an hour every once in a while to help as needed, please check this box. This support is needed during RE Class times as well as during regular office hours in the Parish Center.

Protecting God's Children

Each volunteer who works with or near children is required to attend and receive a certificate at the Protecting God's Children program. Please indicate whether you have a certificate or not. If you don't, go to our website under the Volunteer Menu Button, and select Protecting God's Children for the current schedule. Thank you!
