Available Coordinator Positions
The following Coordinator positions are now available effective the school year 2013-2014. Please contact Dennis Joven, Athletic Director, at djoven@comcast.net or on his cell phone, 630-802-0813, if you know of someone who might be interested in these positions.
Volleyball Coordinator:
After many years of coaching volleyball and being the VB Coordinator, Bob Burns has decided to retire. The only qualification you need for this position is the ability and willingness to work with children and adults, nothing else. Here is a snapshot from the Athletics Policy of the duties and responsibilities of the Volleyball Coordinator.
The responsibility of a Coordinator is to support and advise the Athletic Director and School Principal regarding the athletic program. In addition to coordinating the monitoring of games & practices, the Coordinator for a given sport will help set policy, review coaching applications, assign team coaches, oversee the team selection process and review the end of season parent evaluations. Coordinators are responsible to help the coaches and train them accordingly. They also are responsible to hire and schedule scoreboard and scorebook workers to keep time and scoring records during league games and they prepare a gym monitor schedule for all home league games. Coordinators handle inquiries from parents and any problems that may arise that cannot be resolved by the respective coach. Coordinators may also be involved in reviewing and recommending actions for all disciplinary issues brought to them from the A.D.
Concessions Coordinator:
After countless years of being the Concessions Coordinator, Dina Cady, will be stepping down to give others the opportunity to help our school. Here is a snapshot from the Athletics Policy of what is involved as the Concessions Coordinator:
The Concessions Coordinator shops and stocks the kitchen weekly with food and beverages for sale at games that take place in the gym during volleyball and basketball seasons. (Concession profits are used to reduce student fees.) They work with the A.D. to set prices based upon costs. The Concessions Coordinator designates team parent responsibilities throughout the season and coordinates and schedules concessions coverage during volleyball and basketball playoff games that involve non-St. Mary’s teams.
Uniforms Coordinator:
The current Uniforms Coordinator, Lisa Davis, will be stepping down after the current school year. Here is a snapshot from the Athletics Policy of what is involved as the Uniforms Coordinator:
The Uniforms Coordinator is responsible to make sure that uniforms are available for the various sports. They acquire new uniforms as necessary and distribute uniforms to the student athletes and monitor the return of uniforms at the end of the seasons. They inform the A.D. of uniforms that are not returned so that parents can be invoiced for the cost of lost or unreturned uniforms. The Uniform Coordinator also arranges for damaged uniforms to be repaired by the uniform vendor as needed.
Gym Monitors:
We are in need of additional members to join the gym crew! The duties are as follows:
- Act as gym monitor during game day
- Set up gym before the first game
- Clean up gym after the last game
- Pay referees, gate workers and score keepers
- Make sure kitchen and front gate are running smoothly
- Watch some good volleyball or basketball games.
We are looking for 4 – 6 volunteers that are willing to spend 3 – 4 hours, twice a month on gym duty. The total monthly time commitment would be about 7 or 8 hours and would fall on weekends, primarily Friday evenings or Saturday/Sunday afternoons. The commitment would run from the start of the Volleyball season in September through the end of the Basketball season in March. You will not be expected to set up or clean the gym by yourself. There will always be someone there to help you open and close, however, you will most likely be the lone school official during game times (there is not much to do during games other than enjoy watching quality sports).
Volleyball:
Assistant coaches are needed at all grade levels for the current volleyball season. The volleyball season starts mid-August and runs through the end of October with postseason play possibly going into the first couple weeks of November.
Basketball:
We are in need of coaches and assistant coaches for the upcoming basketball season. There are multiple openings across all grade levels. The basketball season runs from the beginning of November through the end of February with postseason play the beginning of March.
