SMG has one squad which is comprised of girls in 6th - 8th grade who cheer at most of the home boys basketball games. The season runs from November through February. They hold regular practices during the week in preparation for the weekend games.
The SMG cheerleaders do not only energize the crowds at the games but also participate community outreach events through the season. They have packed toiletries for the homeless and have taught cheers to preschool classes.
A highlight for younger girls at SMG is when they get to attend a cheerleading clinic hosted by the cheerleaders. Usually held in February, the girls in 2nd - 4th grade spend a couple of hours with the SMG cheerleaders participating in team building games and learning some cheers - one of which they can perform at a post season basketball game!
NEWS:Rena is looking for parent volunteers to
coach each cheerleading squad. The cheers, stunts, dances and pyramids
are all taught by the older grades, but adult supervision is needed and
required if the squad is to exist. You may reach her at
rkuratko2@gmail.com or at (630) 546-2469 if you have questions or are
interested.
